An upright daggers is an allusion to the physical danger inherent in some of the unit’s responsibilities. The globe represents the unit’s mission across the Army and the globe. On the blue half is a demi-globe with a sphinx-traditional symbol of Military Intelligence because it denotes observations, wisdom, and silence-in the upper black half appearing to rest upon it. Inside the shield-shaped insignia, the upper half is black and the lower half is oriental blue black reflects Special Operations Forces the unit supports, while oriental blue is a Military Intelligence color. The 902nd Military Intelligence Group Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI), or unit patch, was approved as an exception to policy by Headquarters, Department of the Army G-1 and authorized on 21 September 2007.
